The #FSOTour is our tribute tour to John Williams, one of the best composers of all time, as we have told you so many times. It is true that he is well known for having composed some of the most famous film soundtracks in history, but surely there are some facts that you did not know about him and that will surprise you:
1. His father was a jazz percussionist who played with the legendary Raymond Scott Quintet. For those who don't know, Raymond Scott was a New York composer, experimental musician, pianist, sound engineer, and inventor of electronic musical instruments.
2. In 1952, at the age of 20, John Williams was drafted into the United States Air Force, where he composed and conducted music for the air force band as part of his duties.
3. The first musical compositions he made in the cinema were for comedy films, such as "How to Steal a Million", starring Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole.
4. In his 53-year career he has composed a total of 102 soundtracks.
5. Most of his compositions have been for dramas, followed closely by adventure films and, to a lesser extent, action and science fiction.
6. Williams has composed the music for 4 Olympic Games held in the last 26 years.
7. With his 51 Oscar nominations, he is the living person who has nominated the most times for this award and the second most nominated person in the history of the Academy Awards behind Walt Disney's 59 nominations.
8. The soundtrack he composed for Star Wars was chosen by the American Film Institute in 2005 as the Best American Film Score of All Time in a list of 25 pieces of music.
9. He has won a total of five Oscar awards and four Golden Globe awards. He has been nominated 21 times for the Golden Globes and 59 times for the Grammy Awards.
10. The composer will begin working on 'Star Wars: Episode 9' this summer. The film will be released in December 2019.
